Ephesians 4:23–28 (ESV)
23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
Jesus does more than change our eternal destination—He begins renewing our everyday lives. Because we belong to Him, we can put aside old ways and learn to reflect His likeness. This is not a call to earn His love, but to live from the grace we have already received.
In Eph4:23, Paul reminds us that renewal begins in the mind. Bring your thoughts before the Lord today. As His Word shapes your thinking and His Spirit works within you, your attitudes, desires, and choices can begin to reflect Jesus.
Christ has given you a new identity. Putting on the new self means learning to live from that identity, leaving sinful habits behind. When growth feels slow, take heart. Sanctification is a daily journey—not instant perfection, but a continuing pursuit of Christlikeness.
That renewal reaches our words. In Eph4:25, Paul calls us to put away falsehood and speak truth. Choose honesty seasoned with love, even when it is difficult. Rather than gossiping about someone, speak lovingly to them.
In Eph4:26-27, Paul reminds us that even anger toward evil must not lead us into sin. Bring unresolved anger to Christ before it hardens into bitterness and gives the devil room to divide. Let Him guide your response.
Finally, Eph4:28 shows grace turning a taker into a giver. The person who once stole now works honestly to help someone in need. Grace does more than turn us from wrongdoing; it teaches us integrity and generosity.
Challenge: Pause today and ask: Where do I need to put away the old and live out the new—in my thinking, my words, my anger, or my generosity? Bring that area to the Lord and take one faithful step toward truth, peace, integrity, or kindness.
Prayer: Lord, renew my mind today. Help me put away the attitudes and habits of my old life and put on the new life You have given me in Christ. May my words be truthful, my anger be surrendered to You, my work honor You, and my hands be open to help others. Let the change You are making within me become visible through the life I live. Amen.
